I've got a camera I'm trying to love…

Well, I don’t have a 5D Mk II (scared off by the focusing/softness issues I’ve been reading), but I do have something new to play with.

Courtesy of a 16-hour marathon ‘work’ session given to me by my evil taskmaster overlord.

Always wanted a zoom, and finding something within budget was extra nice. Was kinda torn between this and the 55-200mm VR, but the fact that the latter wouldn’t work nicely on an FX camera was the selling point. Anyway, walked around the neighbourhood to test it out and all. I remember Felicia showing me her neighbourhood flowers and I was all ‘damn I wish I had that kind of neighbourhood’. Guess I do have some pretty interesting plants around my area too!

Pink Hibiscus! Pretty pink!

Black Chilli. Wonder if it tastes hot…

My uncle was recently ordained a priest (yes, my mum’s happy cause her two sons probably aren’t gonna take that path), and I recently exercised some forgiveness of my own by giving the Helix bridge a second chance.

The shots from the ordination aren’t grand, I learnt the limitations of using a prime when you can’t move (they had official photographers, hence I had to be content using my camera as an idiot proof camera which couldn’t zoom), and in unfavourable lighting. Still, managed to catch some that I’m content with. And on my second trip to the Marina Bay area in the evening, I decided to swap back to my kit lens and arm myself with my tripod. Suffice to say, I was happy with the results.

I am especially happy with this shot, though it was the only one I took from this angle. Should’ve taken more! I do very little colour correction to my photos (partially because I’m lazy), so I do appreciate have pretty colours without having much to do. 😀 Decided not to crop out the people because I felt they add to the piece.

Well Nicole wanted to test out her new 10-22mm wide lens, so we headed down to the Marina Bay Sands because for some reason, we thought the Helix bridge would be interesting. If I’ve learnt anything, it’s not to think that any structure deemed “creative” in Singapore is interesting, and not to head towards that area when the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge in underway.

So anyway, let’s get to the pics before I break into a rant about having to walk through probably every other person who works in the CBD.

So this was the target. I think the silhouette makes it look much better than it really is, mainly because it’s not actually done yet, just half done. That, and I love the colours of the sky at sunset.
